Million Dollar Weekend: The Surprisingly Simple Way to Launch a 7-Figure Business in 48 Hours

Author: Noah Kagan

Rating:
4.74/5

Themes: Business & Entrepreneurship

Summary Sentence: Find a lucrative business idea by following Noah Kagan’s process: get started and overcome your fear of asking, brainstorm and validate business ideas, leverage media for growth, start marketing, and remember to be happy.
Review: Each chapter tackles a step in his process by providing clear advice for readers to follow along on their own journey. He makes no promises that you will achieve a million dollars, but I think people will definitely be set in the right direction. The book was both entertaining and actionable.

Start It

  • You need to get comfortable asking people for things if you’re going to sell something
  • Realistically the worst thing that will happen is they say no. The best thing that could happen is that you make a million dollars. There is more upside than downside.
  • Change your mindset to think rejections are a badge of honor. Collect them.

Build It

  • Customer first approach – Verify you can get customers as quickly and cheaply as possible before you do ANYTHING else.
  • Find business ideas by thinking about your own problems, looking for trending topics in marketplaces/search engines, and seeing if you can build something for another product/service that’s already trending (ex: you make phone cases for iPhones)
  • Once you have a bunch of ideas, pick the most promising and verify that it could be a million dollar idea.
    • Use google trends and marketplaces to see if people are interested. Roughly write down the cost and what you might charge to determine how much you can make. Is it reasonable that you will get over 1 million from it?
  • Try pre-selling, posting online, and cheaply creating a landing page. Ask people if they are interested. If not, ask “why not?” and “what would make you interested?”.

Grow It

  • Use Social Media to build an audience and market your idea
  • Collect emails so you can tell people about your ideas in the future

Enjoy It

  • Find other entrepreneurs to go on your journey with. Send people messages to connect before they get famous.
  • If your goal in starting a company is to have a better life, then don’t forget it. You don’t want to hate the job that you created for yourself.
